Keeping an Eye Out with Google Alerts
Friday, 16 January 2009

Keeping an eye on what people are saying about you or your company on the internet is quite a daunting task. However our favourite search engine Google has come to the rescue with an excellent service known as Google Alerts.

Google Alerts allows you to keep track of a particular topic that is featuring within Google Search results (i.e your company name or your competitors).    Whenever Google catalogues something new that matches your keyword, it will send you an email (you can specify to receive alerts “as it happens”, “once a day” or “once a week”).

Quite nifty hey?   To setup a Google alert go to http://www.google.com/alerts/.

Just keep in mind that these alerts do not reflect every bit of content that is on the internet about your topic.  Rather it is a reflection of items that Google has added to its search results.
