Working in the electronic world of marketing it's always reassuring to know the effectiveness of your campaigns and whether they are bring in sales and referrals to your business.
But what are some of the things you can (and should be tracking)?
1. How people are getting to your website.
You want to know how they are getting there wether it's from:
2. Once people are on your website you want to know
- What pages they are clicking on?
- How long they are staying?
- What is the last page (exit page) they viewed?
3. Offline Contact
Once people are ready to get in contact with you around 50% of people will actually use offline methods to contact you (e.g. phone). Is extremely important that you ask all new customers how they got in contact with you.
4. Email Marketing – what results are your email campaigns getting for you? Key statistics include
- How many people are opening your emails
- What links people are clicking on
- More on email marketing statistics here.
5. Other media campaigns – you can track the effectiveness of offline mediums such as broadcast, print or direct marketing by including specific url's or domains, e.g. for a magazine ad you're running you may register a specific domain name (www.websitespecificaddress.com.au) that is only used with this campaign. You can then track the traffic through this domain.
